Ready For the World
R&B, Pop, Dance Melvin Riley, Gordon Strozier, Gregory Potts, Willie Triplett, John Eaton, Gerald Valentine were more than ready for the world when they started appearing in heavy rotation on MTV in 1985, with their monster jam and #1 hit Oh Sheila. These Flintstones had been getting ready for a long time. The band, Ready For The World, broke big with that hit and their RIAA certified platinum debut album, self-titled Ready for the World. The album spawned more gold with Tonight, Digital Display, Deep Inside Your Love, Ceramic Girl, and Love You Down. |
The hit single Love you Down climbed to No# 1 on the R&B charts and reached No# 9 on the Pop charts. That year, these rising Flintstones also appeared on The Beverly Hills Cop III soundtrack, as well as co-produced a song with Rod Templeton (who also wrote Thriller for Michael Jackson the greatest selling single to date) on the Running Scared soundtrack starring Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal.
According to one of the bands founders, Gordon Strozier, being nominated for a Grammy was the pinnacle--but not just the nomination. We Are The World was performed, on stage en masse. The extraordinary and famous performance included: Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Julian Lennon, Whitney Houston, Huey Lewis, Smokey Robinson, Elizabeth Taylor and Frankie Avalon, Kool and The Gang, and Dion. Joining in via satellite was Johny Cash, Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney, and Roger Daltrey.
And right there on the stage were the six happy Flintstones. Ready For The World, indeed.
