Jo Lake
The story of Jo Lake’s life is the stuff great screenplays are made of. Her journey from mom and housewife, to nursing school, to becoming one of the most prolific coaches in Michigan High School athletics is one that can only be labeled as unlikely and amazing. Her stat line includes leading Holy Rosary and Kearsley to eight state high school championships. In the 1975-76 school year, her Holy Rosary teams incredibly won state Class D titles in basketball, volleyball and softball. She also had two more state titles in each of those sports at Holy Rosary and two state Class A volleyball titles at Kearsley. In 1979, Lake was named National High School Volleyball Coach Of The Year. Her leadership helped usher in the era of equal opportunities for women's athletics. |
Darryl "DJ" johnson
Darryl 'DJ' Johnson is one of the all-time greats in Genesee County's illustrious athletics history. Make no mistake about it - Darryl Johnson was one of the best to ever do it. At Flint Central he played two years of football, and was part of three straight Michigan Class A State Championships, the only athlete to ever achieve that in Michigan high school history. DJ then went on to a tremendous career at Michigan State University, forming one of the greatest backcourts in MSU hoops history along side running mate Scott Skiles, and playing for for legendary coach Jud Heathcote. A lengthy pro career in the Venezuelan Professional leagues, and a stint in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers followed. |
Pat McInnis
Pat's blue collar roots growing up in Flint, along with his athletic careers at Flint Powers Catholic and Eastern Michigan University informed his foundational philosophy of Care, Trust, and Loyalty. Alongside business leader Dan Gilbert, founder of Rock Financial, Pat was instrumental in leading the entire sales organization and helped shape the evolution of Rock Financial into industry giant Quicken Loans. By 2002, McInnis was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Quicken Loans. That success led to other opportunities that included starting up a company called Fathead that produced life size vinyl wall graphics featuring pro athletes and other celebrities. While he was in the middle of doing all of this he managed to become a minority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team. Subsequently, he has dedicated his post business career to philanthropic activities, including a focus on his hometown of Flint. |
