Holiday Under the Stars!

Did you know that Flint's Longway Planetarium is one of the largest and best equipped planetarium in the United States?  And that it was built in 1958, at the beginning of the "race to the moon" the US and Russia were competing for.  Space and the cosmos were all the rage!  

We've arranged a special event with the Longway Planetarium, Holiday Under the Stars, where you'll learn about the history of the planetarium, have a few hors d'oeuveres and drinks, and then have the opportunity to watch their annual light show, Cosmic Christmas!  We'll also be recognizing our first inductees to the GCHS Wall of Honor!

Rock n' Roll, Hip-Hop, Blues, Soul, Jazz, Country, and Punk...you name it, Flint and Genesee County have produced great music and musicians.  We even have one of our own disc jockeys in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!  The Genesee County Historical Society is presenting a retrospective of the many forms of music that was created here, woven with history, and what all of this means to us.  

Guest speaker, Sam Thompson, former music industry executive and chief of security to Elvis Presley, joins us to tell some stories of what it was like to be behind the scenes, working with Elvis.  All-in-all, we know it's going to be a special, one-of-a-kind event.
